Bio

Dr Timothy Carman was primarily trained in trauma surgery and Emergency Medicine. In the year 2000, Dr. Carman decided to expand his surgical training, specifically to specialize in plastic and cosmetic procedures, as this seemed the best marriage of his skills as a surgeon and aesthetic senses as an artist. He was accepted into and successfully completed a two-year Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at USC affiliated Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Hospital, where his cases included pediatric burn patients referred from the USC Burn Unit. Among the varied procedures performed on these individuals, the recreation/reconstruction of the natural features of the face and hair-bearing scalp seemed to impart the greatest impact on his patient’s confidence and self-esteem.

From those experiences, Dr. Carman decided to concentrate the focus of his practice on procedures involving the head and neck, and more specifically, on hair transplantation. Dr. Carman subsequently completed a year-long ISHRS Fellowship Training Program, and has been practicing Hair Transplantation surgery for 22 years.

Dr. Carman is a diplomate of The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, and served as President of the ABHRS in 2022. He is chair of the ABHRS Credentialing Committee, is a member of the Ethics Committee, and serves as an oral and written Examiner for the ABHRS. He is a Fellow and Faculty Member of The International Society of Hair Restorations Surgery (ISHRS), the leading authority on hair loss treatment and restoration with more than 1,000 members throughout 60 countries worldwide. In addition, Dr. Carman serves on the Editorial Staff of the ISHRS’ principle medical journal, the most widely respected peer-reviewed journal in Hair Restoration Surgery. Dr. Carman has lectured on the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss internationally on multiple continents. He has held faculty positions as an operating surgeon in Live Surgery Workshops worldwide, all aimed at elevating the surgical skills and techniques of traditional hair transplant surgical procedures to current as well as up and coming surgeons new to the field.

Dr Carman approaches the hair transplantation procedure as a dedicated artform; it is sculpting in the purest sense. He brings his sensibilities as a painter and musician to his practice from the consult to the completed work. All of the patients of his practice are unique, self-standing works of art, a reflection of the dedication and care of his surgical team.

Dr Carman owns and operates La Jolla Hair Restoration, a private practice in La Jolla California.
